FlutterFlow(YC21) - April Fools
April Fools Video Series - A three-year comedic universe built with FlutterFlow, evolving from absurd product launches → full brand parodies
For three consecutive years, DVXI produced FlutterFlow’s official April Fools campaigns — playful, imaginative videos that turned a technical no-code product into a cultural moment. Each year pushed the humor, world-building, and production value further, turning the annual April 1 drop into a beloved running tradition among FlutterFlow’s community.
As a long-term creative partner, I led concept development, scripting, directing, acting, and editing for each installment.
Overview
Objective
FlutterFlow wanted to connect with its global developer audience using humor — showcasing the brand’s personality, building internal culture, and creating highly shareable content without relying on product-heavy marketing.
The goal each year:
Surprise & delight the community
Build brand affinity and trust
Create a “virality window” around April 1
Humanize a rapidly growing SaaS brand
Strengthen FlutterFlow’s visual and comedic identity
Approach
Across the series, I leaned into comedic exaggeration, world-building, and parody of tech culture. The videos blend cinematic storytelling with inside jokes for devs, pulling viewers into a self-aware, fun universe that aligns with FlutterFlow’s creative energy.
The tone evolved from light-hearted parody → full cinematic sketch → character-driven comedy.
THE VIDEO SERIES
2022 — FlutterFlow for PS5 (The CD-ROM Launch)
Concept:
FlutterFlow announces a physical PlayStation 5 disc that allows developers to “build apps in 4K 120fps.”
A parody of multi-platform hype + ridiculous corporate product expansions.
Execution:
Shot like a genuine tech launch announcement
Crisp cinematography mixed with absurd claims
Mock gameplay cuts and deadpan reactions
Tone mirrors PlayStation trailers & enterprise “hard launches”
Impact:
Fan-favorite launch that set the tone for future April Fools drops and solidified FF’s comedic identity.
2024 — FabricFlow: FlutterFlow Becomes a Fashion House
Concept:
FlutterFlow “pivots” into high fashion, becoming FabricFlow — a couture clothing company blending dev culture with runway energy.
Execution:
Fashion commercial cinematography
Dramatic slow-motion shots
Tech buzzwords applied to clothing (“drag & drip,” “version-controlled jackets”)
Music + editing style inspired by fragrance ads and luxury fashion films
Intentionally over-serious delivery
Impact:
One of the most culturally shareable pieces FlutterFlow has released — resonated beyond the dev community because of its fashion parody.
2025 — AI Takes Over FlutterFlow (Unaired Internal Cut)
Concept:
An AI system accidentally becomes CEO of FlutterFlow and forces employees to run the company “at 10x velocity.”
A satire of AI panic, over-automation, and corporate “efficiency speak.”
Execution:
Shot as a mock internal documentary
Employee testimonials about the AI overlord
Over-the-top workplace restrictions
A dystopian-but-funny tone (like a tech version of Severance)
Never released publicly (internal viewing only)
Impact:
A cult favorite inside FlutterFlow; used to demonstrate internal culture and showcase how far the brand is willing to go creatively.
Strengthened trust between DVXI and FlutterFlow leadership.
Series Outcome
Across three years, the April Fools series:
